Regarding her work in arena and fertility Nancy stated: "I worked in an infertility clinic in the early 1990s and saw first hand the stress and struggle so many couples go through. As I became a clinical hypnotherapist I was thrilled to see clinical studies confirming the benefits of hypnosis for increasing success of fertility treatments and improving outcomes. It has been exciting to see the same results with my own clients. "
She went on to to say: "I have come to deeply trust the human spirit, and the power of the mind-body connection, for healthier living in this complex world. What I believe my work ultimately is about is nurturing. Nurturing women, and their families, whether it is through the fertility process and procedures, to the amazing process of pregnancy and birth, I always strive to support people in uncovering and expanding on their strengths, talents, and developing greater skills."
A couple months ago I was looking to try hypnotherapy and I found Nancy when I was searching online. After looking at her website, I just had a feeling she would be a perfect fit for me and I was right! Not only has she helped me out immensely with dealing with all of life's stresses with hypnotherapy, she is also an amazing counselor and someone who really listens. I immediately felt at ease with Nancy as well, like I had known her for years. I highly recommend her!
Hypnosis is proving itself to be helpful in the fertility arena. Clinical studies have shown that working with hypnosis, and other stress reduction techniques, may increase the success rate of women getting pregnant naturally, or with the help of IVF and other infertility treatments.
People are often surprised at the idea of using hypnosis for fertility, pregnancy, and birth. Actually, it has been used in childbirth and dentistry since 1950's, when it was accepted by the American Medical Association (AMA). The techniques used in Hypnosis for Fertility have their foundation in the works of Gail Peterson, MSSW, Dr. Alice Domar, and Niravi Payne, MS, as well as other mind-body techniques for health and wellbeing.
The short answer is YES. This is probably the biggest question most people have. Usually because of stage hypnotist shows and movies people have seen. At no time does anyone give up control of their mind while using hypnosis. So that means that even in stage hypnosis, everyone is in agreement with what they are doing. If at any time someone were to suggest something that was not ok with your bottom line core beliefs, you would either pop back to full awareness or just not participate.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis, and is a natural state everyone goes in and out of frequently. Who hasn't had a moment of pulling into the driveway and not remembering the last 10 minutes of driving, or zoning out the window during a meeting or class?
This natural state is most commonly experienced in times of creativity, athletic events (the Zone) focusing, meditation, flow, daydreaming, etc. Hypnosis is at its core a heightened state of focus and awareness (not going to sleep), that with some practice, is accessed and controlled by you.
Hypnosis is a powerful tool in building new life skills; breaking free of old patterns, flowing in life more smoothly, improving concentration, increasing confidence, improving sports performance, and much more.**
Ultimately everyone can benefit from the skills learned. The level achieved depends on the individual's participation and commitment to follow through. Of course everyone is also unique in what works for them and how they move through making changes, transitions and healing.**
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. In using hypnosis, the conscious mind is focused to such a degree that everything else fades away. This focused state is reached using the imagination with relaxation methods similar to what is used in meditation, biofeedback, or guided relaxations or visualizations.
The process of visualizing and relaxing is a powerful way to quiet the thinking mind and access the deeper mind-body connection. This allows you to step out of the ruts in life, and see a new horizon of options and possibilities. Imagine sitting on top of a mountain. You naturally have a much wider perspective sitting on top of the mountain vs. sitting down in the bottom of a canyon. Focusing with hypnosis helps you access this wider perspective and see new choices and options, and then plant seeds for new habits and reactions.
Connecting to your mind-body connection also provides an access point for you to connect deeply within and access your own inner guidance and knowing more fully. From this space it is easier to shift perceptions and responses to stressful situations, and release habits and patterns that no longer work.
People also learn stronger coping skills, how to increase their concentration, intuition, and clarity as they access this focused state more readily. These skills build greater confidence and calmness in a wide range of life experiences.**
Research has shown that once you are in the relaxed focused state of hypnosis or meditation, the same areas of the brain are activated. Hypnosis uses this focused state proactively to pull the weeds of old habits/patterns/responses, while planting and supporting seeds for new responses. It really isn't magic, but it can seem that way.
Just as each person is different, each session can be different. Sometimes it is more about talking (counseling/coaching) through an issue to reach clarity on how we will work together towards your goals. Other times we may use some of the other healing approaches including tapping and EMDR type techniques, among others. We collaborate on what is going to work best for you always.
The number of sessions varies on the person and what we are working on. For many 3-4 sessions are enough, others need more. Clients are welcome to return periodically for "tune ups" as needed.
You are welcome to take advantage of a free 30 minute consultation to learn more about what is available and discover how it might work for your specific needs.

Sessions are available for older children - teenagers, and adults.
In keeping with the focus on individual needs, sessions are tailored the same way. Often hypnotherapists charge by the session, based on a 90 minute session. Instead of charging by the session. Charges here are based on the amount of time actually used for a session.
Session fees are as follows: $110 for first hour with $20 for additional 15 minutes segments. Session under an hour are $30 per 15 minute increment.
Payment is expected at the time of a session. Cash, checks, and all major credit cards are accepted, as well as paypal.
Nancy is "out of network" with the insurance companies. However, receipts are available for billing, and many clients have been able to get reimbursement through their counseling benefits. Insurance reimbursement varies by plan (check with your insurance for questions). If you have a HSA or flex spending account with your insurance, those cards may also be used for payment.
**Please note: There is a charge for sessions cancelled with less than 24 hour notice.**
Nancy, deciding to work with you was one of the best decisions we made during our pregnancy. Not only were the hypnosis for birth skills essential tools to have in our toolbox to achieve the natural birth we so desired, doing our 'homework' and practicing the skills really helped us to create a special bond in our relationship. And we can't imagine our birth experience without you there as our doula.
You were amazing and a great, invaluable support - especially through the most 'intense' moments. Thank you again so much! It has been more than a pleasure working with you.
